The Royal Recap – Special Moments from the 2015 Royal Winter Fair

The 2015 Royal Winter Fair Dairy Shows certainly had many memorable moments.  Here are just a few of the many highlights that we will remember forever….and if we forget there is video to remind us.

Red & White Show

Kicking things of was the Red and White Show where Judge Thierry Jaton cemented the emergence of L-MAPLES HVEZDA CALLI RED as one of the great red cows of the breed.  Taking advantage of the likes of World Dairy Expo Grand Champion, STRANS-JEN-D TEQUILA-RED (Read more) and the outstanding milking yearling MISS HOT MAMA-RED, that finish 2nd, showing in the Holstein Show, CALLI took home the Grand Champion honours over the extremely impressive MEADOW GREEN ABSO FANNY RED.

Ayrshire Show

Continuing her winning ways the deep bodied open ribbed VIEUX VILLAGE C DIAMOND mature cow.  Taking home Intermediate Champion honours was DE LA PLAINE REALITY STING, with WEST MEADOW DREAMER’S VYDA winning Junior Champion Honours.

Holstein Show

With the likes of the legendary RF GOLDWYN HAILEY making an appearance at this year’s Royal, as well as many cows stepping up their game since the Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo anticipation for this year’s show was at an all-time high (Read more: The 2015 Royal Winter Fair Holstein Show Preview).  Judge Michael Heath and his associate Gus Schwartzbeck would certainly have a lot of tough decisions to make.  But with precision and ease they did just that, selecting CHARWILL ATTIC MARCY as their Grand Champion.  Marcy delivers the expectations many have had since she calved in the spring looking absolutely amazing.  Though it was no cake walk for MARCY with MS GOLDWYN ALANA the extremely popular mature cow looking the best she ever has and besting Expo Supreme Champion LOVHILL GOLDWYN KATRYSHA in the mature cow class. Taking home Honourable Mention Grand Champion Honours was LOYALYN GOLDWYN JUNE who bested the legendary Hailey in the Production Cow Class.

Throwing her name in for future Grand Champion Consideration was Intermediate Champion, CO-VALE DEMPSY DINA 4270.  Following Dina was the surprising Senior Three class winner ROBELLA GOLDWYN EDGELEY who seeming came out of nowhere to defeat Expo Reserve Intermediate Champion, BERGEROY SID AMBELLE in that tough class.  Rounding out the impressive Intermediate Champions was GAEMENCHET SID KATIA the impressive Junior Three Year Old that show loads of future potential.

Generating a lot of excitement was Junior Champion KENNEBEC WINBROOK MINNEAPOLIS.  This balanced deep bodied Summer Yearling bested the winning Senior Calf SCO-LO-COONS SID ARIA that earned many fans with her long clean dairy neck and open rib.  Rounding out the Junior Champions was KINGSWAY AIRLIFT LIPTON who was victories in the heated Intermediate Yearling class.

Robert “Rob” Crest of Skycrest Holsteins, Athabasca, Alberta, was named the 2015 Curtis Clark Achievement Award winner. Rob Crest, 46, is a partner in Skycrest Holsteins with his wife Sue, children Chad and Katelyn, and parents, John and Vickie Crest. Five generations of Crests have farmed at this northern Alberta farm that today encompasses over 2500 acres of land and has a 66-head tie-stall barn which includes 20 Excellent, 63 Very Good and 16 Good Plus cows. The Crest family was “Alberta Holstein Breeder of the Year” in 2013 and 2005. A quiet, determined man, none of Crest¹s many achievements have come easy, but he has accomplished them with hard work and a ready smile. He is a friendly, well-liked face on the show circuit. Rob and his wife Sue have taken great joy in watching their children, Chad and Katelyn, succeed in their own 4-H dairy club work and now take an active role in the herd and farm. Jersey Show

With great discussion about what show is the premier Jersey Show in North America, The Royal Jersey Show certainly threw its name in for contention with the likes of the Jersey Show at World Dairy Expo (International Jersey Show 2015 – World Dairy Expo), as well as the All American Dairy Show (The All American Jersey Show – NAILE 2015).  In the end it was Expo Grand Champion MUSQIE IATOLA MARTHA that would take home the title.  Though it was no cake walk for Martha as the recently fresh for the 2nd time, Senior Two Year old CROSSBROOK HG DIXIE.  Following in her grandmother’s footsteps, the great Veronica, Dixie certainly made sure that she will be in the running for future Grand Champion Honours.  Rounding out the Champions from the Jersey Show was Veronica’s Ontime daughter ARETHUSA ON TIME VOGUE.  Also an animal with a bright future is the Junior Champion ARETHUSA ON TIME VOGUE who in Judge Nathan Thomas’s words “May be the best heifer of any breed that he has had the opportunity to judge”.

Supreme Champion

Riding high after her win in the Jersey Show, Martha improved on her Reserve Supreme Champion Honours at World Dairy Expo, to become the Supreme Champion at the 2015 Royal Winter Fair.  (Read more: Martha Claims 2015 Supreme Champion Honours)

 

Fantasy Exhibitor Results

robertCongratulations to Robert Texeria of Giltex Holsteins in Turlock California on winning this years Fantasy Exhibitor Contest.  Robert had a string of MILKSOURCE SID DESIRE, GREENLARK LUCILLE ATWOOD, BUCKS PRIDE PUMPKIN PIE, MS. ABSOLUTE BLISS, JACOBS GOLD LIANN, CO-VALE DEMPSY DINA 4270, WENDON DEMPSEY PRUDE, BUDJON-VAIL DOMINIQUE, CHARWILL ATTIC MARCY, CACHE-VALLEY LHEROS 2331, LOVHILL GOLDWYN KATRYSHA for 173 points, plus received 36 points for getting his entry in early for a total of 209 points.  By selecting both Dina and Marcy two cows that had fallen of the radar for many, Robert leapfrogged many of the competitors in the competition.

The ultimate string without write in entries would have been PETITCLERC DOORMAN ANASTASIA, SMITHDEN HILTON IZZY, GREENLARK LUCILLE ATWOOD, KENNEBEC WINDBROOK MINNEAPOLIS, LAFONTAINE GOLD CHIP MAKI, KINGSWAY AIRLIFT GOSLING, MS. ABSOLUTE BLISS, CO-VALE DEMPSY DINA 4270, GAEMENCHET SID KATIA, ROBELLA GOLDWYN EDGELEY, CHARWILL ATTIC MARCY, CACHE-VALLEY LHEROS 2331 and MS GOLDWYN ALANA for a total spending of @1,239,000 and 258 with no bonus points. Interesting to note the number of competitors that spent over the allotted $1,250,000 was an all time high at almost 38% of the 3,127 entries.

The Bullvine Bottom Line
