For the third year in a row the grand champion Jersey, Musqie Iatola Martha-ET, was declared Supreme Dairy Champion at the 2017 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair on Saturday, November 11th in Toronto, Ont. She is owned by MilkSource Genetics and Fernado Jorquin, Kaukauna, Wis.
“She’s a once in a lifetime cow,” says Martha’s owner Annette Ostrom of MilkSource Genetics, KauKauna, WI. Martha won the top prize sponsored by Quality Seeds in 2015, 2016 and, now, 2017. “She’s just incredible,” Annette adds.
Jim Ostrom says he suspects this is the only time in the history of The Royal that a cow has won Supreme Champion three years in a row.
“I’ll spend the rest of my lifetime and I’ll never find a cow like this again,” Jim says about Martha. “Some people say she is the best cow in the world.” He adds that Martha is so well known that she has her own Facebook following!
The Ostroms credit Martha’s success to a supporting team from her original breeder to the people that get her ready for the ring. Martha has had five calves and Jim says she could be back at The Royal in a year’s time if she has number six.
A company from Guatamala has purchased 50 per cent of Martha and sharing the limelight of her win. But she will be staying with the Ostroms in the US.
