The Wisconsin Summer Championship Holstein Show 2024 was an electrifying event held on August 21 in Madison, WI, bringing together top dairy producers for a jaw-dropping display of excellence; Ms. Beautys Black Velvet-ET stole the spotlight as Grand Champion, with Mike & Julie Duckett, Vierra Dairy, and Triple-T from Rudolph, WI, on cloud nine with their win, and even if you weren’t ringside, the outstanding achievements, from Sandy-Valley Francy-ET of Siemers Holsteins as Reserve Grand Champion to Jacobs Chief Dina from Milk Source LLC earning Honorable Mention, offer valuable insights and inspiration for your own dairy farm operations.

It’s not every day that you see a cow like Ms Beautys Black Velvet-ET. At the Wisconsin Summer Championship Holstein Show 2024, she dazzled the judges and audience, sweeping the board with titles of Grand Champion, Champion Bred & Owned, and Best Udder of Show. Owned by the dedicated team of Mike & Julie Duckett, Vierra Dairy, and Triple-T out of Rudolph, WI, Black Velvet’s success is a testament to the unwavering commitment of her owners. The Duckett family and their partners are renowned for their dedication to dairy excellence, and their hard work surely paid off this year.

Judge Matt Templeton, a respected figure in the global dairy community from Australia, had high praise for Black Velvet. “She exemplifies the best of what we look for in a Holstein—exceptional udder quality, production capability, and overall dairy strength,” he mentioned during the award ceremony, highlighting the international recognition of the event. 

Sandy-Valley Francy-ET, who took the title of Reserve Grand Champion, hails from Siemers Holsteins in Newton, WI. Fabulous sire, this remarkable cow. Matt Templeton, the show’s judge, says, “Francy’s balance and elegance set her apart from the rest. She exemplifies the traits we look for in a high-producing, long-lasting dairy cow.” 

Jacobs Chief Dina didn’t just walk away with the Intermediate Champion title show; she was also named Honorable Mention Grand Champion. The first place senior 2-year-old is owned by Milk Source LLC, Ransom Rail Farms, and L Fischer from Kaukauna, WI. According to the judge, Dina’s strength, balance, and udder quality pushed her to the forefront.  “Dina is a young cow showing exceptional promise. Her structural correctness and youthful vigor make her a valuable asset to any breeding program.”  Reserve Intermediate Champion – Open Show: Lehoux Victor Topage (Victor), 2nd senior 2-year-old, Arizona Dairy Co & Richard Breunig, Gila Bend, AZ. 

Honorable Mention Intermediate Champion – Open Show: Kingsway Delta Lambda Julep-ET (Delta-Lambda), 1st senior 3-year-old, Howard-View Holsteins, Burgessville, Ontario

Junior Champion of the Open Show went to Yellowstone Talanie-ET (Caught up), the 1st fall calf for Milk Source LLC & La Femme Fatale, Kaukauna, WI.  She was followed by Mell-View Sfest Darla (Summerfest), the 1st winter yearling for Callie & Conway Krohlow and Paige Sweatt, Poynette, WI.  Rounding out the junior champions was Bella-Ridge WR Madrigal-Red (Warrior), who was the 1st spring yearling for J, L & M Harbaugh and A & A Loehr, Marion, WI.

Duckett Holsteins clinched the title of Premier Breeder Overall. This award is a testament to their outstanding breeding program, which consistently produces top-quality cows. 

 Milk Source Genetics took home the Premier Exhibitor Overall award.

Ocean View Genetics was honored as the Premier Breeder in the Heifer Show. Their young stock demonstrated not just potential but exceptional promise, indicating a bright and promising future for their breeding program. Bella Ridge was awarded Premier Exhibitor of the Heifer Show, showcasing their expertise in raising and presenting young calves. 

At the Wisconsin Summer Championship Holstein Show 2024, the Junior Show showcased young farmers’ talent and dedication. The standout star was SS-Maplecrest Tatoo Jasmine (Tatoo), who clinched both Senior & Grand Champion titles—owned by Tyler Leuch from Pulaski, WI. Not far behind, the Reserve Senior & Reserve Grand Champion titles went to Luck-E Merjack Asalia (Merjack), owned by Tessa & Stella Schmocker from Whitewater, WI, who was the 2nd production cow. Rounding out the top spots was Peace&Plenty Tat Jubie41-ET (Tatoo), who earned Honorable Mention Grand Champion—owned by Hadley Ross of Gila Bend, AZ; this young star placed 4th in the senior 2-year-old. 

Intermediate Champion of the Junior Show was Peace & Plenty Tat Jubie41-ET (Tatoo), the 4th senior 2-year-old for Hadley Ross, Gila Bend, AZ. She was followed by Smith-Crest Sidekick Braz (Sidekick), the 4th junior 2-year-old for Leah, Hattie & Blake Smith, and Elizabeth Gunst, Watertown, WI. Rounding out the Intermediate Champions of the Junior Show was Hodglynn Dormn Blackjack-ET (Doorman), who was the 6th junior 2-year-old for I & L Kamphuis and C & C Gunst, Brandon, WI.

For the Junior Champion of the Junior Show, Judge Templeton selected Bella-Ridge WR Madrigal-Red (Warrior), who was the 1st spring yearling for J, L & M Harbaugh and A & A Loehr, Marion, WI. She was followed by Ocean-View Sweeter In-Red (Warrior), the  1st summer yearling for Kailey Guilette, New Franken, WI.  Rounding out the junior show champions was  Budjon-Vail Jagr Lucille-ET (Jagger), who was the 2nd winter yearling for Emma Paulson, Columbus, WI.
