Turkey may start exporting manufactured dairy production to Russia starting on October 15, following Russia’s placing embargoes on imports of consumer goods from EU, said Harun Çallı, the head of the Packaged Milk and Dairy Products Association, in an interview with the state-owned Turkish press agency AA.
The last obstacle preventing such a trade between Turkey and Russia has been lifted, after talks on harmonizing regulations between the countries, Çallı said.
Russia is banning imports of a wide range of foods in response to Western sanctions against the country’s policies on Ukraine. These embargoes offer new opportunities for Turkey, Çallı said.
Turkey is the fifth biggest exporter of food to Russia, selling 1.68 billion USD worth of goods to its Black Sea neighbor, as of last year.
