Evans’ commitment to public health went well beyond her groundbreaking discovery of brucellosis. She was a staunch advocate for pasteurization, facing considerable opposition but remaining unwavering in her efforts. Her determination paid off when pasteurization became mandatory, drastically reducing milkborne illnesses.

Working alongside the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Evans influenced critical regulations to guard the public against zoonotic diseases. Her persistent advocacy led to the widespread implementation of pasteurization, protecting countless lives.

In an era where women were often marginalized in science, Evans’s unwavering dedication to public health set her apart. Her perseverance and hard work earned her numerous accolades, solidifying her legacy as a trailblazer in dairy science.

“Alice’s legacy is one of resilience and dedication to science and public health,” adds Jacobs. “She set the standard for future generations of scientists, proving that a commitment to truth and public welfare can overcome adversity.”
