First man to walk on moon, Neil Armstrong, later became a dairy farmer

The world is mourning the passing of Neil Armstrong, who died Saturday at the age of 82. In 1969, Armstrong became to the first man to walk on the moon when he and two other astronauts successfully completed the Apollo 11 mission. Following the mission, he worked for NASA, taught aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati, and then bought a 200 head dairy farm near Lebanon, Ohio. News reports have emphasized Armstrong’s quiet nature and how he avoided the limelight, and it appears the seclusion of the dairy farm fit him to a tee. According to an article from The Los Angeles Times, Armstrong enjoyed the physical work required on the farm. “While Buzz Aldrin, fellow Apollo 11 astronaut,  did the Hollywood party circuit and appeared on talk shows, Armstrong took refuge on his Ohio dairy farm and accepted modest jobs in academia and business that seemed to suit his self-effacing image,” says this article from BloombergBusinessweek.
