In the chilling month of February, Bard Control Joliene received an impeccable EX-94 score, just 58 days into her fifth lactation. This incredible achievement wasn’t unusual at Ferme Bard Inc. in Quebec, owned by Marie-Josée Bard and Hubert Guimond, as the establishment is no stranger to such high performers. This Quebec-based farm, currently home to 145 milking cows, celebrated another accolade with Bard Eric Joliane, a family member in her sixth lactation, who also attained the same EX-94 score. “Last year, Bard Control Jolian, who is closely related to Joliene and Joliane, also achieved the same impressive classification of EX-94,” recalls Hubert. “This consistency in high performance is a clear indication that our breeding program is inching us closer to our goal of cultivating EX cows that are capable of achieving no less than five to six lactations while churning out a minimum of 4.5% fat.” Interesting to note, these three exemplary EX-94 cows share a lineage that traces back to Bard Joelle EX-91 10* (Allen-Outside-Aeroline), who is responsible for an impressive 60% of the herd. ‘The lineage of Allen Joelle stands apart thanks to its remarkable dairy strength, high and wide rear udders, and remarkable longevity.’ Treading the path between Control Joliene —who was bestowed with the kudos of H.M. Grand Champion of the Kamouraska Show 2021— and Allen Joelle, one can’t miss laying eyes on an EX-90 Jet Air and prior to that, a VG-87 2-year Gillette Jordan. Control Joliene may proudly claim motherhood to 18 daughter cows, with Bard Dryden Jovanka, barely two weeks into her second lactation, having already received a VG-88 score. “Of the four milking Joliene daughters, Jovanka is certainly our favorite. She boasts of incredible feet and legs, much like her mother, and her rear udder, astonishingly, is even better,” revealed Guimond, beaming with pride.
