A case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy has been found in a deceased twelve year old cow in Slovenia.
The animal was from a holding at Adlesici, Novo Mesto, close to the Croatian border in the south of the country.
The outbreak pertains to a small “cohort” of four cattle, three of which were slaughtered in 2005 and 2012 and one animal still alive and kept in another holding, reports the World Organisation for Animal Health.
Laboratory results from the National Veterinary Institute are to be supplemented with BSE typing at the European Union Reference Laboratory at the Animal and Plant Health Agency in England.
