Amish dairy making new flavored milk

It goes great with waffles, cereal, and cookies. Milk is a mainstay in our diets. Amish Country Dairy is creating a flavorable twist.

It’s an idea three years in the making and one that they hope will “moove” the way you think about what’s in your milk.

Though the milk still comes from the same place, the process is key.

“It’s never homogenized and it’s never separated,” said Leon Miller. “So we’re looking to come as close to nature as we possibly can and this is how we do it.”

Leon Miller says they really want to get back to healthier milk. But in order to stand out even more, they decided to add a little flavor.

Six to be exact: Maple, coffee, strawberry, chocolate, and in the summer, blueberry and peach.

“When I say it’s coffee that’s what it is– it’s just coffee. And when I say it’s just maple syrup, that’s what it is,” said Miller.

And he’s not afraid to let you in on the family recipe.

“No, we don’t want our ingredients to be a secret. We want people to be able to know what’s in there and they know that’s good and they could be confident with what they’re eating and drinking.”

Hoping to instill that confidence is one thing, but entering the dairy business is another challenge. 2020 saw nationwide demand for milk drop.

“I’ve been milking cows now for almost 15 years and that’s part of the game, it goes up and goes down.”

However, Miller says they dodged that bullet and are actually seeing a boost.

“From February to March we had almost a 30% increase. The trick is to get people to try it.”

He says it’s starting to work, as they’re able to crank out 10,000 bottles a day.

“They say, ‘that’s good’ then they’ll take another swallow and say, ‘that’s really good.'”

But this pilot program isn’t just about supporting themselves.

“My hope with this business is to create a sustainable milk price for our community’s dairy farmers, that they may stay home and they have a prosperous and make a fair living,” said Miller.

Miller says if their success continues, they will look to expand. All of their ingredients are made locally, which is why he wants to focus on regional success.

They do have a website launched to order, which you can get to by clicking here.
