The 2016 Sale of Stars had a strong average $14,346 (unofficial) on 86 lots. Held on Thursday evening, November 10th in the new Ring of Excellence at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Ont. A big large turned out for the 64th edition of this sale which was under the management of Brian Craswell Auctions Ltd. and Blondin Int’l Inc.
Daughter of the high indexing “Jedi” commanded the night’s four top bids. Topping the sale at a price tag of $152,000 was Bryhill Jedi Nickolea, a June 2016 “Jedi” calf with a +2882 GTPI and +3387 GPA LPI who sold in absentia to Denoba of the United States. Consigned by Bryhill Farm Inc., Ormstown, Que., she is from a 2-year-old Ste Odile Pure sired dam who is due to calve in January. The second dam is a Good Plus-82-2y “Supersire” with 11,966 kg milk, 4.0% fat, 3.3% protein (298-320-305), followed by eight generations of Very Good or Excellent-USA dams.
Second highest seller at $72,000 was Swissbec Jedi Tatie, a June 2016 “Jedi” calf from the Larcrest Cosmopolitan (VG-87-USA-8*) family sold to Alta Genetics, Watertown, Wis. The consignment of Groupe Swissbec Genetique, Sainte-Croix, Que., she has a +2806 GTPI, +3523 GPA LPI and +2.46 GPTAT. She is from a February 2015 “Supershot” dam and then a Very Good-85-2y “Mogul” grandam who sold for $145,000 in the 2014 Sale of Stars and now completes eight generations of Very Good or Excellent in this well-known family.
The third highest seller at $70,000 was an August 2016 “Jedi”, Butlerview-I Jedi Googlechrome, who has a +2773 GTPI, +3487 GPA LPI and +2.86 GPTAT. She is from a 2-year-old “Halogen” due in January who is a daughter of Farnear-TBR-BH Google-ET (VG-87-2y), a “Mogul” who completes eight generations Very Good or Excellent and has a +3020 GLPI and +2402 GTPI. This calf, who sold in absentia, was purchased by Ferme Blondin, Saint-Placide, Que., with her consignor, Ferme Leothe Inc., Jonquiere, Que., also retaining an interest.
Rounding out the top sellers at $55,000 was Gillette Jedi Cleverbot, a May 2016 “Jedi” who sold to Siemers Holsteins of Wisconsin. Consigned by Ferme Gillette Inc., Embrun, Ont., this calf is from a 2-year-old “Bombero” dam due this month. The second dam is a Very Good-85-2y “McCutchen” with 15,171 kg milk, 4.7% fat, 3.7% protein (316-398-362) and then four more Very Good or Excellent dams.
