“Honey, we’re out of milk!” is a phrase frequently echoed throughout American households. With an average of 20.4 gallons of milk consumed per person each year[1], staples like milk are often the main reason Americans visit the dairy aisle of the supermarket, but it doesn’t have to be the only reason.
There is more to the dairy aisle than just milk. There is a creative, fun side to refrigerated dairy foods that’s beyond cool and waiting to be unleashed. The National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) has partnered with chef and culinary expert, Aida Mollenkamp , to celebrate June Dairy Month and the creative culinary possibilities that come from foods in the refrigerated dairy aisle.
“When people think of the dairy aisle, they usually think of milk, eggs, cheese – kitchen staples,” said Mollenkamp. “I look at the dairy aisle and see recipe inspiration. There is such a variety of foods and drinks that you can customize and create dishes for every meal occasion – from breakfast to dinner and everything in between.”
An Aisle That’s Beyond “Cool”
Beyond the staples, the dairy aisle has a wide variety of food and beverage options, such as juices, dips, potatoes and cookie and pastry dough. In addition, food and beverage companies continually strive to create new, innovative products, like customizable meal starters, to meet the needs of home cooks in search of easy, tasty and healthy meal ideas.
“Home cooks are hungry for meal solutions that represent their personal values and are easily customizable to suit their family’s needs, tastes and schedules,” said Mollenkamp. “The dairy case offers a perfect balance of taste and health with foods that boast real, simple, farm-grown ingredients, making it easy to get creative in the kitchen.”
